Trevince was proud to continue its programme of exceptional local events by hosting the inaugural performance of Intimate Opera Cornwall, a new opera group bringing tailor-made opera excerpts and scenes to delight audiences.
Intimate Opera Cornwall
Intimate Opera Cornwall is a group of professional singers, based in Cornwall, who tour the South West performing heart-warming and hilarious excerpts from some of the world’s best-loved operas and operettas. Its founder – professional classical singer, Cheryl Brendish – is best known for her engaging and enigmatic operatic performances, concerts and recitals.
The group boasts a wealth of professional experience, a passion for opera and many years performing together in various roles with opera companies and concerts.
Offering performances and concerts that are a ‘light bite’ of opera, Intimate Opera Cornwall is more about the voices rather than a full production with costumes, sets and props. Cheryl explains: “I liked the idea of opera being flexible, fun and relevant, easy to bring along to a beautiful garden, a boardroom, a cocktail party or village hall – everyone should be able to enjoy the fun and drama of opera as it’s more relevant today than people realise, with sex, politics and intrigues at every turn!”
Founder Cheryl Brendish
Cheryl has been the shining light for regional opera companies for many years; with an enviable lyric soprano voice she performs regular recitals, concerts and gala appearances around the country.
Other members of Intimate Opera Cornwall include Kay Deeming, Sue Lancaster, Melanie Hoadley, Ben Hoadley, Daniel Hoadley, John Hobbs and pianist, Clive Ellison. The performance at Trevince will be the first time that the ‘Hoadley Trio’ (Melanie is Daniel’s wife and Ben is his brother) have all performed together due to previous conflicting schedules.
This passion for bringing opera to the community in all shapes and forms and working with friends and family is what inspired Cheryl to create Intimate Opera Cornwall: “What better way to spend your days other than creating beautiful music, playing dramatic and fun characters and doing it all with friends”
Opera on a Summer’s Evening
On the 30th June we hosted the inaugural performance by Intimate Opera Cornwall at the beautiful Trevince estate gardens in Gwennap. This al fresco evening featured opera excerpts from two of Mozart’s most famous operas, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro as well as Verdi’s, La Traviata.
The event was hosted by the world-renowned Richard Jackson – an outstanding singer, teacher and director who has just sat on the Kathleen Ferrier Prize jury for the second time.
