A Country House Christmas 2019

Over two weekends in November and December we hosted ‘A Country House Christmas’ at Trevince and greeted more than 4000 visitors.

This popular shopping event featured unique gifts, local artisans, art, food & drink and festive entertainment from local choirs!

Due to the Covid Virus, we are unable to run our Country House Christmas 2020, thus we are planning for Country House Christmas 2121. If you are a local Artisan and would like to book a stand to sell your products, please get in touch via email: events@trevince.co.uk

Our Stunning Poldark Ball

This glittering evening raised a spectacular £13,087 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance New Heli Appeal and was attended by three famous Poldark Stars – Heida Reed (who plays Elizabeth Chynoweth), Christian Brassington (who plays Rev Ossie Whitworth) and Ellise Chappel (who plays Morwenna Whiteworth).

Guests were greeted at the door by red-coated guards from the 32nd Light Infantry of Foot and came from far and wide for this unique event, some had flown over from America and Canada and even from as far as Australia! Guests were individually announced into the house by the Truro Town Crier whilst the Hantergantic Quartet played Poldark music in the gallery above.

One special guest was Stella Veal who arrived in a stunning vintage green racing car with her 92 year old mum – Carmen Humphreys – who was celebrating her 92nd birthday that evening and came dressed as ‘Aunt Agatha’!

Henry Austwick and Oliver McFarlane of Swashbuckling Cornwall started a ‘fake argument’ in the house, which then led the guests outside for a duel on the front lawn, much to everyone’s amazement!

Guests enjoyed live music from the Poldark TV series played by one of the composers, Mike O’Connor and his quartet from the Minstrels’ Gallery, whilst guests tried historic dancing led by experienced Dance Mistress Caller, Diana Campbell.

The magical evening featured a candlelit four-course feast, catered by Rupert Cooper of the renowned Philleigh Way Cookery School. Guests also enjoyed a special gin cocktail, especially created for this event by The Juniper Club – The Red Lady and the Cornish Captain. Heida even tweeted Aidan Turner during the evening to tell him about their delicious special cocktails!

There was an auction of special prizes led by Ed Buckland Auctioneer. A portrait of Elizabeth Chynoweth and the Ross’s waistcoat worn by Aidan Turner in the Poldark series were donated by Mammoth Screen – the Poldark production company.

There were two additional surprise gifts included in the auction sent from Luke Norris (who played Dr Dwight Enys) – he gifted the beautiful wooden writing case he’d used during the filming along with his own special ‘it’s a wrap’ gift from the final series – a stunning engraved port decanter!

The night continued with more dancing and festivities followed by carriages at midnight.

Opera on a Summer’s Evening

On the 30th June 2019 we hosted the inaugural performance by Intimate Opera Cornwall at the beautiful Trevince estate gardens in Gwennap. This al fresco evening featured opera excerpts from two of Mozart’s most famous operas, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro as well as Verdi’s, La Traviata.

Intimate Opera Cornwall is a group of professional singers, based in Cornwall, who tour the South West performing heart-warming and hilarious excerpts from some of the world’s best-loved operas and operettas. Its founder – professional classical singer, Cheryl Brendish – is best known for her engaging and enigmatic operatic performances, concerts and recitals.

The event was hosted by the world-renowned Richard Jackson – an outstanding singer, teacher and director who has just sat on the Kathleen Ferrier Prize jury for the second time.
